Dr. María Juárez Byrd is a veterinarian passionate about exotic and small animal medicine.
She earned her B.S. in Animal Science and minor in Computational Neuroscience from the University of Missouri in only three years. In 2021, Dr. Byrd graduated from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine, where she tracked exotic animal medicine with courses covering fish, falcons, felines, and everything in between. Beyond her classes, she took on leadership roles in the Pain Management and Theriogenology Clubs and volunteered at the local wildlife hospital.
In her last year of veterinary school, she embarked on a three-month internship at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Reproductive Management Center, spent two months at the University of Missouri Comparative Medicine Program, and dedicated two months to immersive exotics-focused clinical rotations at Cornell.
Dr. Byrd is a member of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Companion Mammal Veterinarians, and completed the AAHA Animal Hospice & Palliative Care Certificate Program in 2020.
She and her husband are raising their own flock of baby Byrds in mid-Missouri. Dr. Byrd is excited to work with any patient the hospital can safely accommodate.
