Dr. Christina O’Neill - Veterinarian

Dr. Christina O’Neill

Dr. Christina O’Neill is originally from Macomb, Illinois, where she grew up and attended school. She began her college career at Carl Sandburg College, earning an Associate Degree in Science while also playing two years of basketball. She then attended Western Illinois University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology with a minor in Animal Science. Dr. O’Neill went on to attend the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2014.

After veterinary school, Dr. O’Neill returned to her hometown and practiced small animal medicine for two years before moving back to Columbia. She spent five years in small animal general practice before transitioning into a role that focused primarily on emergency medicine, while still continuing some general practice care.

Dr. O’Neill joined the Southwest Animal Hospital team in August 2026. She enjoys both general practice and emergency medicine, with a special interest in surgery and caring for a wide variety of patients, from routine visits to more urgent and complex cases.

Outside of work, Dr. O’Neill enjoys spending time with her son, Noah, her two Boxers, Rosie and Shaq, and her niece and nephew here in Jefferson City. Between family time and plenty of Boxer zoomies, she describes life as a little bit of “controlled chaos.”
